Weekend plans? Grab tickets to see Robert Randolph and The Family Band at Rams Head Live this Saturday!

Nobody in the world plays pedal steel guitar like Robert Randolph. He’s a maniac—a stool-kicking, happy-footed, rubber-kneed virtuoso who did for that instrument what Jerry Lee Lewis did for the piano.

But Randolph’s antics still involve praising the lord, in whose house (specifically, the Pentecostal House of God Church in Orange, N.J.) he first learned to play the style known as sacred steel. Randolph employs his cousins in The Family Band, and freely admits his pedal-steel passion saved him from the streets, though the streets certainly inform his funked-up, blues-powered sound, as do influences such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Sly Stone.
